Walker Communications approached me a couple of months back with a cracking concept for a new RBAI school propectus.
A range of vibrant shots were to follow a school ‘hero boy’ through various school activities combined with a range of split face images showing the diversity of school subjects, sports and extra curricular activities.
The kick off meeting involved kicking around various ideas to bring the creative concept to reality. We settled on setting up a portable studio in the school for the first day of the shoot, shooting each of the boys individually wearing the various outfits and uniforms.
Lighting was integral to this shoot as to photoshop the faces in post the lighting had to match (or run from light to shadow) across the face, however some scenarios involved highly reflective elements like glasses, visors, musical instruments etc. Shooting tethered to Lightroom we were able to make slight adjustments in the lighting, combating arising reflective issues, yet ensuring the images were a good fit.
For the backgrounds to the images I shot a range of empty ‘plates’ – again we aimed to have these as dramatic as possible to add to the overall impact.
